Coronavirus: Quebec announces reopening of businesses, changes to curfew in some regions | FULL

Quebec Premier François Legault on Tuesday announced changes to COVID-19 restrictions in the province, saying that starting Feb. 8, businesses, hair salons and museums will be allowed to reopen. He said they will also increase activities that can be done in small groups. The curfew will remain in place, except in six orange zones where he said hospitalizations are doing better. Those six zones will be allowed to reopen restaurants and gyms, and the curfew will be pushed to 9:30 p.m.

Legault made the announcement during a COVID-19 update.

He also said that spring break would still happen, with schools being closed and no classes taking place, but warned people not to make interprovincial travel plans, such as going to the cottage during this period.

Asked about ensuring crowds don't gather at malls, such as teenagers wanting to hang out, Legault said they will also be looking into giving out tickets to people gathering in malls, saying it won't be tolerated. When asked if there will be people conducting surveillance to ensure no gatherings happen, Legault said yes.

The province reported 1,053 new cases and 38 additional deaths on Tuesday related to the novel coronavirus.
