Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre responded Tuesday to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's plan to tackle inflation and the cost of living that was announced earlier Tuesday.
Poilievre remarks on the challenge he had issued to Trudeau a day earlier, in which he called on the government to commit to no new tax increases on workers and seniors, but Poilievre said that Trudeau had "failed to make that commitment." He also went on to criticize the six-month boost to the GST tax credit, a dental benefit for some children, and a one time top-up to the Canada Housing Benefit, adding that more housing supply was what was needed.
"So the Conservatives are putting him on notice, that we will oppose any attempts by his government to raise taxes on working people or seniors in this country," Poilievre said.
An exchange temporarily sidetracked Poilievre's opening statement when Global News' chief political correspondent David Akin could be heard asking whether the Tory leader would be taking questions after his announcement. Akin said he'd raise his hand to ask a question, prompting Poilievre to call him a "Liberal heckler who snuck in here today."
