Pierre Poilievre addressed the national Conservative Caucus on Wednesday and laid out the goals for the party moving forward including fighting back against the Liberal government's proposed amendment to Bill C-21 that reforms gun-control laws.

"We know that it's not Grandpa Joe's hunting rifle in Cape Breton or in Wainwright that is committing crimes in downtown Toronto. We know that the vast majority of guns used in crime are illegally smuggled into this country, 82 per cent of gun crime is smuggled guns -- none of that is going to be solved by banning these hunting rifles and not a single, solitary criminal is going to turn in their gun," Poilievre said.

The Liberal amendment to Bill C-21, which is currently being studied by members of Parliament, would set out a regulatory ban on what the government calls “assault-style weapons” by putting an evergreen definition for such firearms into law.

A new poll conducted by Leger over the weekend says 33 per cent of respondents would vote for the Conservatives and 30 per cent would vote for the Liberals if a federal election was underway. This is the fourth consecutive monthly poll in which the Conservative party has maintained a lead – and the fourth since Poilievre became its leader.
