Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre criticized Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday over his government's handling of the Roxham Road irregular border crossing, and called on Trudeau to implement a plan to close the crossing within 30 days.
He went on to claim there was no problem with this area before Trudeau took office. He said that the problem "followed" Trudeau, and "didn't precede him." He went on to say that the immigrants crossing there are not at fault, saying they're just doing what Trudeau "told them to do."
After demanding for months that Ottawa stop the flow of migrants into the country, Quebec Premier François Legault is making his pitch to English Canada for the closure of an irregular border crossing popular with asylum seekers — and for their transfer outside his province.
The number of would-be refugees entering Quebec “has exploded,” Legault wrote in an English-language letter published Tuesday in The Globe and Mail, adding that the province’s social services have been pushed to their limits. The sooner the federal government closes Roxham Road — an irregular border crossing in southern Quebec frequently used by asylum seekers — the better, the premier said.
