Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau defended the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) on Monday, amid criticisms levied by Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre and a request he made to Twitter owner Elon Musk to insist that the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation be labeled as "government-funded."

Trudeau accused Poilievre of enlisting U.S. billionaires to attack Canada's public broadcaster, adding that the leader was "attacking this Canadian institution, attacking the culture and local content that is so important to many Canadians." Trudeau said that the actions were "telling" of the values Poilievre held.

Later on Monday just prior to question period, former Conservative leader and MP Andrew Scheer spoke during members' statements and also commented on the CBC.

"Here's some simple facts that should not be controversial: water is wet, Saskatchewan is cold in the winter, and the CBC is funded by the government," he said, before adding that Poilievre would "make sure it doesn't get any tax dollars at all" after the next federal election.
