Canada’s NDP and Conservative party leaders, Jagmeet Singh and Pierre Poilievre spoke about the country’s ongoing housing crisis on Wednesday.

While suggesting alternative solutions to help house millions of Canadians affordably, the opposing politicians, too, criticized Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for the Liberal government’s efforts on the matter.

Poilievre claimed that Trudeau’s eight years in office are the reason for the current “housing hell” and why mortgage rates on new homes are 250 per cent higher than they used to be.

Singh, on the other hand, said the NDP wants to take action, “build” and create solutions, as opposed to Trudeau and Poilievre — who he claimed are too busy “blaming” others for the issue instead of taking action.

Regarding solutions, Singh suggested waiving both the GST and HST to incentivize construction companies to build affordable homes. Poilievre suggested “balancing the budget” to bring down inflation, as well as removing government bureaucracies that “stop home building.
