During question period in the Canadian House of Commons Wednesday, Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre questioned Prime Minister Justin Trudeau about the link between the government's deficits and the inflation Canadians are currently facing.

The bank governor's statements earlier today about the rising inflation risks and the bank's openness to further rate hikes — likely due to the government's deficits — were reviewed by Poilievre.

Trudeau responded stating that cutting spending and support for Canadians would not be beneficial in helping them do better, adding that greater investment in housing was needed.

Poilievre, however, claimed that promises of affordable homes have not yet been fulfilled and that housing costs have doubled.

In response, Trudeau defended the government's efforts to invest in Canadians and work with municipalities to build more homes across the country.
