Canada's transport minister announces air travel funding amid WestJet's Sunwing acquisition | LIVE

Canada's Minister of Transport Omar Alghabra is expected to deliver remarks on Tuesday at Toronto Pearson International Airport regarding federal funding that will benefit air passengers.

He will make the announcement alongside Mississauga–Streetsville MP Rechie Valdez and Brampton Centre MP Shafqat Ali.

This announcement comes after WestJet Group’s takeover of vacation-focused rival Sunwing Airlines has been approved by Alghabra, clearing the runway for a major shakeup in the airline industry. He gave the Liberal government’s official sign-off on the deal in a press release on Friday afternoon, noting the decision "was not taken lightly."
