The Conservatives released their costed platform just before the official French-language debate on Wednesday, promising it would eliminate the deficit within 10 years without cutting programs or services.

The Tories first released their platform in the first days of the campaign, but have faced pressure to show an item-by-item price tag for all their proposals with the Liberals hammering them over keeping the money behind their plans quiet. The costing, however, actually covers only five years and doesn't count axing some programs as cuts, such as the Liberal government's $30 billion child care system, which the Conservatives would replace with alternative programs of their own.

David Akin crunches the numbers and explains how it stacks up to the Liberals' plan.
