Defence Minister Bill Blair and Employment Minister Randy Boissonnault announced upgrades to CFB Edmonton on Monday, as well as discussed the continued need for Ukraine military support.

Afterward, the ministers are expected to meet with Canadian Armed Forces members previously deployed as part of Canada's mission to train Ukrainian troops. The ministers will be briefed about efforts to train Ukraine soldiers on critical combat engineering skills, including de-mining.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has continued to stress the importance of supporting Ukraine, saying last month that the consequences of not doing so "could be devastating."

Since Russia's invasion, the federal government says it has committed over $5 billion in multifaceted support to Ukraine, including over $2.6 billion in assistance, more than $1.2 billion in military aid, $320 million in humanitarian aid, $96 million in development assistance and more than $68 million in security and stabilization programming.
