Canadian Defence Minister Anita Anand announced on Tuesday that the government had purchased more than 20,000 rounds of 155-millimetre artillery to send to Ukraine. She said the aid package would also include fuses and charge bags.

The military shipment is the latest assistance provided to Ukraine as it continues to defend itself from an invasion by Russia. Canada has been sending supplies to the country since the war began in February 2022, including both lethal and non-lethal military aid.

Anand's announcement comes just as Russian forces had launched an all-out assault to encircle Ukrainian troops in twin cities straddling a river in eastern Ukraine. It's a battle that could determine the success or failure of Moscow's main campaign in the east. The defence minister said efforts were underway to deliver the supplies as quickly as possible.
