Ukraine's secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Oleksiy Danilov, says while he is grateful for the support from Canada's government, he has three request going forward: "one, defensive weapons, two, defensive weapons and once again, defensive weapons."

Canada has already contributed economic support, including loaning $120 million to the Ukrainian government, and the training of soldiers, but the ask now is more defensive support. Danilov also said they do not need additional soldiers from other countries, it's the support of equipment they are asking for.

Russia has denied it is planning any military action, but it has amassed an estimated 100,000 troops near Ukraine in recent weeks, prompting the U.S. and NATO allies to rush to prepare for a possible war. .
In an interview with Global News, Danilov said that "democracy's at stake" as tensions continue to simmer between Ukraine and Russia and is urging world leaders not just to talk about supporting Ukraine, but to act now and not later on should something happen. Crystal Goomansingh reports.
