There is concern that the U.K. COVID-19 variant could be behind a severe outbreak at Roberta Place long-term care home, where more than 100 positive cases have been confirmed.
According to the local health unit, 63 residents and 53 staff members have tested positive for the novel coronavirus. At least 10 residents have died from the virus since the outbreak was declared on Jan. 8.
Moving forward, a hospital in Orillia, Ont. will temporarily provide leadership support to Roberta Place by working with other local organizations that have been helping to control the outbreak, including the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, County of Simcoe and Georgian College. Morganne Campbell has more.
