Ottawa Police Deputy Chief Steve Bell said on Tuesday that police continue to face resources issues while dealing with the ongoing anti-vaccine mandate protest and have identified the need for 1,800 and civilian personnel to end the situation peacefully.

He said officers were attacked on Monday by protesters while attempting to seize fuel from protesters.

In addition, police intelligence has gathered that 25 per cent of the 418 truckers encamped in Ottawa have children living in them. Police are working with children’s aid society to ensure their welfare and safety.

Police have made 22 arrests, issued more than 1,300 tickets, and have 79 ongoing criminal investigations in relation to the protest.

Bell said police have seized fuel, and cut off financial and logistical support to the “occupation.”

He also said that working with Ohio police they’ve made an arrest for an individual for calling in fake threats designed to deceive and distract emergency resources.
