Ottawa Police chief Peter Sloly and Deputy Chief Steve Bell provided an update Thursday as trucker protests continued.

Sloly says the police department has done everything it can with the resources it has over the past 24 hours, significantly reducing the "footprint" of the demonstrations by towing trucks, laying charges and making arrests.

Sloly says they've utilized the additional resources and are waiting for even more. "Our arrests are up, our charges are up and we're towing more trucks...and we're able to negotiate with demonstrators in a more forceful way," he said.

With police reporting “a concerted effort to flood” 911 lines was being made, Sloly said a significant amount of the calls, but not all of them exclusively, were coming in from the U.S.
