Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Monday he will travel to the Atlantic Canada regions impacted by post-tropical storm Fiona this week, adding that he would make the trip “as soon as possible.”

Trudeau said the Canadian military has arrived in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, where members will assist in the removal of debris and restoration of the power grid.

The prime minister made the comments alongside Defence Minister Anita Anand and other federal ministers.

Anand said 100 Canadian military personnel are available “per province” to assist in recovery efforts, adding that personnel were being activated in response to a request from Newfoundland and Labrador. She said HMCS Margaret Brooke is sailing to the province, where it will conduct welfare checks on Tuesday in four communities on the south coast.
