The Canadian Red Cross (CRC) has launched an appeal for donations in the wake of post-tropical storm Fiona, as recovery efforts begin in provinces across eastern Canada.

Bill Lawlor, director of government relations for the CRC, made the announcement during a briefing on Sunday alongside officials from Nova Scotia.

“We know that the needs are going to be great,” Lawlor said, adding that the organization is working with provincial and federal governments to determine how it can best distribute those resources.

Lawlor said that 266 people across the region have registered with the Red Cross to date but said that number is expected to grow.

Geoff Moore, Bell’s director of network operations, also spoke about his company’s efforts to prepare for the storm. Moore said that Bell “did everything we could” to plan for the storm and keep the network running despite the magnitude of the storm.
