Prime Minister Justin Trudeau travelled Tuesday to the north shore of Prince Edward Island, where he pledged to find ways to build more resilient infrastructure after inspecting the extensive damage caused by Fiona.

Trudeau also paid a brief visit to the Cape Breton, N.S., community of Glace Bay, where he met with residents and surveyed a blustery, rain-soaked neighbourhood. During the visit, he was shown two homes with their roofs torn off.

He applauded people’s resilience and communities coming together, as well as reiterated the government’s readiness to provide help and support in recovery efforts.

On Saturday morning, Fiona left a trail of destruction across a wide swath of Atlantic Canada, stretching from Nova Scotia’s eastern mainland to Cape Breton, P.E.I. and southwestern Newfoundland.
