In tonight’s top story: Throughout Friday night into Saturday and Sunday, storm Fiona hammered Atlantic Canada, causing widespread power outages, washing out roads and downing trees.
In Port aux Basques, the town on Newfoundland and Labrador's south western tip that felt the brunt of Fiona's fury, rescue crews found the body of a woman who was swept from her home. Ross Lord reports.
In Nova Scotia, Premier Tin Houston toured the damage caused by Fiona on Sunday. Houston said it was “heartbreaking” to see the state of the hardest hit areas. Graeme Benjamin reports from Halifax where residents are starting to clean up the debris.
As Prince Edward Island begins to take stock of the damage left behind by Fiona, officials say the whole picture is not yet clear. In fact, it could take days to understand how widespread the impacts are. Silas Brown has more.
And residents in New Brunswick are also trying to pick up the pieces after parts of its coast suffered strong winds and severe flooding from Fiona. Nathalie Sturgeon has more on the damage there.
In the U.S., more than a year and a half after the Capitol was stormed by rioters angry over Donald Trump's election loss, the search for accountability remains a top priority for democrats. This week, the January 6 committee will hold what could be its final hearing. While the witness list is still unknown, the panel is running out of time with the party's majority at risk of collapsing after the midterm elections. Reggie Cecchini reports.
Plus, more than 70 companies in the U.K. are taking part in the world's largest-known trial of a 4-day work week. Experiments with a shorter week have become more popular in recent years as some employers look to offer a better work-life balance. As Redmond Shannon reports, the pandemic has made many of us re-examine the traditional 9 to 5 shift.
