Ontario Premier Doug Ford said Tuesday that the province would launch a review of the controversial Greenbelt land swaps which two provincial watchdogs have criticized as “rushed” and “flawed.”

Ford claimed a non-partisan facilitator would review the 15 sites originally selected to be removed from protected Greenbelt to make way for housing development.

The premier said each of the sites would have to “stand on their own merit,” but added that all land in the Greenbelt would be part of the review not just the 15 sites marked for development.

Ford's statement follows the resignation of his former housing minister Steve Clark, who stepped down on Labour Day morning — just a few days after a scathing report found he had violated ethics rules as his land selected land to be removed from the Greenbelt.

Paul Calandra will take over as housing minister and is tasked with reviewing all Greenbelt applications.
