Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced Thursday that his government will reverse the controversial Greenbelt land swap decision it made earlier this year.

During the press conference, which took place in Niagara Falls, Ford cited the decision as a “mistake” made in an effort to combat the housing crisis and “establish a process that moved too fast.”

“This process, it left too much room for some people to benefit over others. It caused people to question our motives," Ford said, adding "As a first step to earn back your trust, I’ll be reversing the changes we made and won’t make any changes to the Greenbelt in the future.”

The announcement follows the resignation of another member of Ford's PC cabinet. MPP Kaleed Rasheed stepped down from his position on Wednesday after news reports raised questions about his connections to a construction developer.
