In our top story: Israel has ordered people in the centre of Khan Younis to leave for their own safety. Gaza's second largest city was the scene of fighting between Israeli forces and Palestinian militants on Sunday, although many parts of the city have already been subjected to Israeli airstrikes for the past two months. With this evacuation order, the number of safer areas inside Gaza is reducing by the day. The World Health Organization (WHO) has described the situation as “catastrophic,” as it unanimously adopted a resolution calling for immediate medical access to Gaza. Redmond Shannon reports.

In addition, hostilities underscoring Israel's assault on Hamas are having a significant impact beyond the Gaza Strip, as a global diplomatic effort continues to unfold to find a way to stop the fighting. At the centre of the dispute is a 160,000 square-kilometre swathe of land where massive discoveries of offshore oil and gas have been made. Venezuela has placed troops at the border, while the U.S. held joint flyover drills with Guyana. Mike Drolet on what has happened and what might be next.
