Ontario’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Kieran Moore said on Thursday that the province needs to “reassess the value” of vaccine passports in the coming weeks and months.

Moore says currently the passport system primarily protects the unvaccinated from infection.

The province’s top doctor also offered his thoughts on potential immunity from exposure to the Omicron variant, saying health officials are “not confident” how long that could last.

He said immunologists say a booster shot “significantly” adds to protection against the virus, even after becoming infected.

Moore also commented on the BA.2 subvariant, stating that Ontario has detected 29 cases in the province. He said more information is needed to determine if the variant is more virulent.
