Ontario’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Kieran Moore said Tuesday that beginning on Sept. 7 the province would mandate COVID-19 vaccine policies in high-risk settings such as hospitals, ambulance services and home and community service providers. Employees in these sectors will be required to provide proof of vaccination, a documented reason for not being inoculated or continuing COVID-19 testing.

Moore said Ontario is also working on a vaccination policy for publicly funded school board employees and staff at licensed childcare settings.

Ontario’s top doctor also said the province would provide a third booster shot to “vulnerable Ontarians,” including, transplant recipients and those actively being treated for blood cancers. A third dose will also be offered to those in high-risk congregated settings like long-term care homes and First Nations elder care lodges.

He added that starting Wednesday, children turning 12 years old before the end of 2021 will be eligible to receive their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
