Speaking during question period at the House of Commons on Wednesday, Conservative MP Michael Chong continued to press the federal government regarding reports of 11 electoral candidates receiving funding through the Beijing consulate in Toronto during the 2019 election. Chong’s line of questioning regarding “Beijing’s meddling” came after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the G20 summit.
In response to Chong, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Safety Pam Damoff said that the government is “taking action” and denounced foreign interference as being designed to “sow chaos and to destroy every fabric of our democracy.”
Separately, NDP MP Matthew Green said that provincial health-care systems across the country are “collapsing,” and demanded that the government take action so that children are able to receive the medical care that they need.
In response to questions about affordable housing policies by Conservative MP Scott Aitchison, Minister of Housing and Diversity and Inclusion Ahmed Hussen claimed that the opposition party has voted against such policies on a regular basis.
