Canadian Conservative MP Larry Brock accused the federal Liberals of shutting down the committee studying ArriveCAN in “shameful display,” demanding that the controversial app must be studied.
“The walls are caving in, the rot is being exposed – what is the coalition so desperate to hide?” he asked on Thursday in the House of Commons.
The House of Commons operations committee suspended future ArriveCAN hearings after some members raised concerns about a “scary” secret report produced by Michel Lafleur, executive director of professional integrity at the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).
Committee vice-chair Majid Jowhari said any further hearings could jeopardize ongoing investigations into ArriveCAN by the CBSA and the RCMP, a point echoed by Jennifer O’Connell, parliamentary secretary for democratic institutions and intergovernmental affairs, during question period.
O’Connell said the federal government has “faith” in the CBSA president and that “any acts of wrongdoing will come with consequences.”
