Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek said in an afternoon update on Sunday that the primary break of a water feeder main “has been fully repaired” and that the focus is now on “knocking off" the remaining five hotspots, which were discovered during investigations after the major water line first broke 11 days ago.

Gondek added that no further breaches have been found, 16th Avenue will be partially reopened later that night, and heavy equipment is arriving on Monday to address the five remaining hotspots that need repairs. Gondek also said that the city has engaged six private sector partners to gather expertise from oil and gas professionals, engineers and hydrologists.

Calgary Emergency Management Agency chief Sue Henry outlined a number of road closures along 16th Avenue that will impact the morning commute. Henry suggested commuters refer to the city’s website for the most current information as the situation continually changes.

“We are moving quickly. We know the urgency you feel to get back to normal as quickly as possible, and I can assure you that our teams feel that too. We're making all the efforts to bring you back to normal service as quickly and as safely as we can,” Henry concluded.
