Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek said Wednesday that a pipe sourced from San Diego, Calif., has arrived after additional points of failure were identified following a catastrophic water main break on June 5, which led to the city’s water supply crisis.

Gondek also addressed concerns that the pipe had come from the U.S. rather than being procured locally, saying that it would not have allowed the city to complete the repairs as quickly.

“While we would have welcomed the opportunity to custom make this pipe right here at home, it would have taken a lot of time,” she said.
Since the feeder main break was reported, Gondek says, Calgarians have saved the equivalent of more than 600 Olympic-sized swimming pools of water.
