Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek and Calgary Stampede CEO Joel Cowley announced at Monday's afternoon water main update that the annual festival will proceed in July as planned, despite the city’s local state of emergency that was declared on Saturday.

“I know that summer has been on everyone's minds and how this water matter could impact summer festivals and events, including Stampede,” Gondek said. “The show will go on, the summer will carry forward.”

“It's very important that it moves on as a number of our industry partners have indicated,” Cowley said, adding that “the show will go on, but it will go on in a very responsible manner.”

Billed as the “Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth,” thousands of visitors and many extra animals from out of town are expected to show up for the Calgary Stampede from July 5 to 14.
