Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., called for more attention to be paid to the damage of gun violence more broadly across the United States during a hearing Monday with Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle in a House Oversight hearing Monday on the July 13 attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
“The former president gets a hearing on his attempted assassination, but our residents don't get a hearing about mass shootings about gun violence,” Tlaib said.
Listing several mass shootings over the last several years, as well as smaller shootings in the Detroit area, Tlaib said citizens did not get the attention they deserved when it came to gun violence.
“They don't have Secret Service to protect them" or to protect "kids in the schools or the supermarket, movie theaters or going to a block party in Detroit,” she sai
