Rep. Jake LaTurner, R-Kansas, questioned Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle in a House Oversight hearing Monday on the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a July 13 campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
LaTurner echoed other lawmakers’ frustrations and pressed the director for more answers. The Republican asked if Cheatle could provide more information, given her decadeslong experience with the agency, before the internal investigation is completed. That information could help dispel conspiracy theories that cropped up after the shooting, LaTurner said.
Cheatle repeated statements she had already made to the congressional committee, acknowledging there was a failure and there are gaps that the Secret Service would need to address.
