Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin questioned Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle in a House Oversight hearing Monday on the July 13 attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Cheatle, responding to questions from the Democrat on why the gunman was allowed to take the stage, said there’s a distinction between people flagged as suspicious and those identified as a threat. Raskin raised reports that said local police had identified and photographed a man who was flagged as suspicious before Trump got on stage.

Cheatle then echoed takeaways from her opening remarks.

“I accept responsibility for this tragedy. We’re going to look into how this happened and we’re going to take corrective action to make sure it never happens again,” she said.
