In what he said would be his final floor speech, before he joins President-elect Joe Biden’s White House as a senior advisor, Rep. Cedric Richmond, D-La., made his case for impeaching President Donald Trump during in a hearing Jan. 13.

Democrats are pursuing a quick second impeachment a week after President Donald Trump gave a speech they say incited insurrection. On Jan. 6, while Congress was in the process of counting electoral votes and certifying President-elect Joe Biden’s win, a pro-Trump mob stormed the Capitol, clashed with police, and forced lawmakers to pause their sessions and evacuate to safety.

Richmond said Trump’s rhetoric incited the insurrection and that Republicans who argued that the president learned his lesson after his first impeachment were clearly wrong.

“We told you so,” he said to end his speech. “Richmond out.”
