President Joe Biden asserted that he will defend American interests in his administration's foreign policy and that he will end the "forever war in Afghanistan."
For the first time since taking office, Biden delivered remarks to a joint session of Congress on April 28. During his speech, Biden emphasized that countries around the world, including China and Russia, must play by the rules.
The president also said the United States will stand up to unfair trade practices and human rights violations.
"America is an idea — the most unique idea in history," Biden said. "We are created all of us equal. It's who we are, and we cannot walk away from the principle."
Normally the full House and Senate and most of the president's Cabinet would be in attendance for the joint session, but because of COVID-19 restrictions, attendance was limited to roughly 200 people
