President Joe Biden is pushing lawmakers to act on the comprehensive immigration bill he sent to Congress on the first day of his presidency.
“The country supports immigration reform,” Biden said. “Let’s argue over it, let’s debate it, but let’s act.”
The proposed reforms include tackling border security and a pathway to citizenship. “Immigration has always been essential to America,” Biden said.
For the first time since taking office, Biden delivered remarks to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday, April 28, 2021. Normally the full House and Senate and most of the president’s Cabinet would be in attendance, but because of COVID-19 restrictions, attendance was limited to roughly 200 people.
