During his first joint address to Congress on April 28, President Joe Biden depicted a country facing an existential crisis in the aftermath of the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol by a violent mob. He called on Americans to uphold the tenets of democracy.

“We have to prove democracy still works, that our government still works, and we can deliver for the people,” Biden said.

The president delivered his address live at the U.S. Capitol, but the crowd was socially distanced and significantly scaled back due to COVID-19 protocols.
