New Brunswick's Luminultra Technologies Ltd. is spearheading a project for the Greater Toronto Airports Authority to test for COVID-19 from wastewater.

The project will take samples of wastewater to help identify variants of concern of the COVID-19 virus and mpox.

"When human beings or really any animal gets infected with any kind of an infectious disease, one of the modes that we have of ridding ourselves of that pathogen is through poop" according to Luminultra CEO Patrick Whalen.

All areas of the airport will be part of the test, including wastewater on planes.

Nathalie Sturgeon has more on the project and how it will help understand what viruses are coming into the country.
