Brink's, Inc. is suing Air Canada for more than $20 million after gold and cash worth approximately C$23 million were stolen from a cargo warehouse at Toronto Pearson Airport.
The lawsuit alleges that Air Canada failed to provide safe and secure handling of the valuable shipments, which were supposed to be under enhanced protection. The theft occurred in April this year, and despite a police investigation, the goods and the culprits remain missing.
Brink's filed a Statement of Claim in the Federal Court in Toronto on Oct. 6, alleging that someone with fake documents was able to get the loot by pretending he had authority.
Global’s Sean O’Shea reports.
