An eyewitness recalled seeing a man with a rifle on a nearby roof moments before former U.S. president Donald Trump was shot in the ear at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

Greg Smith told the BBC he had alerted police and the Secret Service just before shots were heard. "We were telling police, we were pointing at him for the Secret Service who were looking at us from the top of the barn. They were looking at us the whole time," Smith said.

"If I walked up close enough, with anything that Secret Service considered a problem, I wouldn't be standing here talking to you right now. But I don't know why a guy, who we're standing pointing at to police and Secret Service, is crawling around the roof... but my question is, there's only a few buildings around here, why is Secret Service not at every building here? There's a whole bunch of questions."

Trump was shot in the ear in an attempted assassination, an attack that will likely reshape this year’s U.S. presidential race while raising sharp questions about the security provided to the Republican candidate.
