Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau delivered a speech in the House of Commons to mark the coming anniversary of the massacre at Ecole Polytechnique.

"No parent should have to mourn the loss of a daughter as they did thirty one years ago in Montreal," Trudeau told the House. "No family should have to hold each other in grief, as they did in Portapique last April."

A gunman walked into the building on the snowy evening of Dec. 6, 1989 and opened fire in the school. He murdered 14 women and injured 13 others before killing himself.

Speaking after the Prime Minister, Conservative leader Erin O'Toole said the memory of the victims of the Ecole Polytechnique shooting 31 years ago "lives on" each time a female engineering student "gets her iron ring."
