Drone footage showed fields and trees scorched by wildfires in Spain, shot in the western Zamora province on Wednesday.

Flames reached the area around the towns of Tabara and Escober de Tabara on July 17, ravishing agricultural land and forests. Over 12,000 hectares of land were devastated by the flames, Copernicus satellite images showed.

Six thousand people were protectively evacuated from their homes by authorities, two people were killed by the blaze and three were critically injured.

So far, 90,000 hectares have been burnt across the country this year, including 20,000 hectares — an area slightly bigger than New York City — in a heatwave that began on July 10.

This has been considered Spain's worst year for wildfires in a decade, according to government figures.
