Asst. Comm. Rhonda Blackmore with the Saskatchewan RCMP said on Saturday that Cst. Shelby Patton was killed during a traffic stop of a stolen vehicle from Manitoba.

Blackmore said the truck struck and killed the RCMP officer as it fled the scene. She said investigators don’t believe any firearms were discharged during the incident.

Officers arrested two suspects in a rural area northeast of Francis, Sask., later that morning, Blackmore said.

RCMP detachments across the province will lower their flags to half-mast until sunset on the day of Const. Patton’s funeral, which the RCMP will announce in the coming days.
