National security and intelligence advisor to the prime minister Jody Thomas and the deputy minister of public safety Shawn Tupper were among those testifying before the Procedure and House Affairs committee (PROC) on Wednesday, which is looking into accusations of Chinese meddling in the 2019 and 2021 Canadian elections.

Tupper testified Wednesday that the RCMP is not investigating any allegations of political interference concerning the 2021 federal election.

The Liberal government has come under pressure in recent weeks to explain what Canada is doing about accusations of Chinese interference in the elections following leaks to the media from unnamed security sources.

Over the last number of weeks, Global News and The Globe and Mail have revealed detailed reports showing the scope of China's alleged efforts to influence Canadian society, including allegations of attempts to interfere in the 2019 and 2021 elections.
