The mayor of Ottawa, Jim Watson held a virtual news conference on Wednesday in which he said that the full cost of last weekend's storm cleanup will be covered by the province of Ontario, following a meeting with Premier Doug Ford. The deadly storm swept through the provinces of Ontario and Quebec on Saturday.

Watson also announced that $1.9 million from the Social Services Relief Fund will be directed toward 20 agencies across the city. The goal will be to restore power to the majority of residents across the city by Friday, according to the mayor.

Officials from the City of Ottawa, along with its partners at the Ottawa Police Service and CEO Bryce Conrad from Hydro Ottawa were also in attendance.

At least ten people died and three communities declared states of emergency after the storm that knocked down trees, brought down power lines, and damaged property.
