Nova Scotia officially ended its state of emergency and lifted most COVID-19 restrictions on Monday, but despite the changes, a protest formed outside the home of the province's top doctor over his decision to keep masking in schools until mid-April.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Strang called the lifting of restrictions an "important transition" on Global News Morning in Halifax, but said the protest that was livestreamed on social media groups was "concerning."

"It was quite a disturbing night and you know, they were keeping us up till ... I was up till well after 2:00 with prank phone calls and things like that," he said.

Strang eventually called police and members of the protest later told an RCMP officer they wanted to talk to the doctor about the decision to keep masking in schools.

Graeme Benjamin has the details.
