The fallout continues from the discovery of the unmarked burial sites of 215 children at a former residential school in Kamloops, B.C. The Catholic church is facing mounting pressure to take responsibility for its role in Canada's residential school system, which saw countless Indigenous children suffering.

Now, Pope Francis is expressing his pain and sympathies over the discovery in B.C. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had already made earlier appeals to Pope Francis to have the Church make a formal apology – yet as David Akin reports, the Pope stopped short of making one even with his latest comments.

Meanwhile, Paul Johnson reports from Kamloops on what Indigenous communities there think about Francis' non-apology, and explains why an actual acknowledgement would still mean very little to them.
