Residential school survivors want action, not just an apology

In late March, a group of Indigenous delegates, including residential school survivors, traveled to the Vatican, where Pope Francis apologized for the deplorable conduct of some members of the Catholic Church. But reaction to the apology has been mixed.

For some, it was a comfort, but for others, more concrete action is still needed. With the Pope's visit to Canada set for late July, there are calls for a fuller apology, delivered on Canadian soil. There are also calls for action: criminal charges for those responsible, and the release of critical documents held in Rome -- that could help families identify the children who never came home.

The New Reality gained access inside the historic trip by Metis, Inuit and First Nations delegates, as Neetu Garcha traveled with some of them to Vatican City as they shared the pain of the past, to find a path to the future.
