U.S. President Joe Biden toured reconstruction efforts of the I-95 in Philadelphia on Saturday as Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro promised that the Interstate would reopen within the next two weeks.

"We are going to get traffic moving again thanks to the extraordinary work going on here by these union trades workers," Shapiro said. "We are so grateful for the incredible support that the federal government has provided us," he added.

"The immediate release of three million dollars was called quick release – emergency funds made to offset the cost of repairs. This is just a down payment obviously, there's a lot more than that – we're going to be getting a lot more federal funding out the door over the next few weeks," Biden said.

A portion of a vital highway on the East Coast of the U.S. collapsed in Philadelphia after a tanker truck carrying gasoline caught fire underneath an overpass last week.

Smoke billowed from the rubble of the collapsed section of the northbound lanes of I-95, the main north-south interstate on the East Coast, running from Miami through Washington and New York before ending at the Canadian border in the state of Maine.
