U.S. President Joe Biden said on Friday that the federal government will be providing $100 million in relief aid to residents of Louisiana that includes $500 to each resident. Louisiana was hit hard by Hurricane Ida this past weekend when it slammed into the state as a Category 4 storm.

Biden delivered the remarks while touring neighbourhoods in LaPlace, La.

The president said they are working hard to restore power to most of the state with approximately 25,000 lineman, who came from 32 states. In addition, they're also attempting to restore phone service.

Biden said they have dipped into the strategic petroleum reserve to keep gas flowing to the pumps.

Ida was the fifth most powerful storm to strike the U.S. when it hit Louisiana on Sunday with maximum winds of 150 mph (240kph).
