Ontario Lt. Gov. Elizabeth Dowdeswell delivered the speech from the throne on Monday, beginning the new fall legislative session of Premier Doug Ford's government and gave some details on how COVID-19 recovery would be a primary focus of the months to come.

Among the investments announced was $2.68 billion to help build more long-term care beds over a decade and legislation to protect those in the homes, to ensure "bad actors" cannot "get away with anything less than quality care" for the most vulnerable.

Dowdeswell also announced commitments to fund new hospital beds and ICU beds, as well as hospital builds for the Peel Region. The government also committed to continuing its work to deliver a new hospital for Windsor-Essex.

The province also promised to push the federal government, alongside other provinces, to increase the Canada Health Transfer to 35 per cent of provincial-territorial health-care spending.
